Classical Spartanburg Science Fair
Register to participate.
All young scientists wishing to display a project at the fair must register in advance through this online form. We strongly encourage early registration. Final registration deadline is February 1. There is a fee of $5 per project to register. Registration fees must be postmarked by February 1, 2022. Registration fees can be made payable to Kristi Bowen and mailed to: Classical Spartanburg Science Fair, 121 Lakeland Ave. Moore, SC 29369. You may also submit payment through PayPal to bowenjr@gmail.com.
Projects should be student driven.
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.
Working with someone else.
You may work on your project independently, or if you are a Foundations or Essentials student you may work with one sibling who is also a student at Classical Spartanburg. Challenge students must work independently. If working with a sibling, the project will be judged in the category of the OLDEST child in the partnership.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic. Check out this website.
Judging and awards.
The goal of our science fair is simply to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for science. Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to a judge at the Science Fair. Students will be divided into categories: 1st-4th grades; 5th-8th grades; 9th - 12th grades. Each category will have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner.
Submit your photos!
Parents -- while your young scientist is busy conducting that wild experiment, sneak out your digital camera and capture some shots. Then upload them here, so we can follow your progress!
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the science fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. We have all kinds of different jobs to be done, so if think you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, we would love your help. Please contact Kristi Bowen at kristibowen77@gmail.com and sign up now!

Report Example
This is an example of a report that was created using the "Writing Your Report" guidelines listed above. Each Science Fair submission needs a Display AND an accompanying Report (typed). Submissions without an accompanying typed report will be disqualified.
** - Students in the 2nd and 3rd Grade Category may have their parent's help with the physical act of typing, not writing, the report. However, 4th grade and above must type their report on their own without assistance from the parent.**
